Jiu jitsu is a powerfully effective ground-based martial art that uses grappling type movements to control an opponent with the goal of submission through joint locks and chokes. It is highly effective (and excellent for smaller people) due to the use of leverage against the weak points of the body. It is also one of the few martial arts that can be performed regularly at 100% effort without sustaining injury, which also makes for an incredible total-body workout

Please show up at least 15 minutes early to your free class to get set up and take a quick tour. We will provide you with a uniform or gi for class and you are invited to participate in class as an active member. Your first class with be a fundamentals class with other beginner students. You will be partnered with someone of your own size and work on the daily technique, as well as partner drills. There is a warmup and cool down in each class and you will not spar on your first day.

Just some water and a good attitude. We will provide a loaner uniform for your first class. Just fill out the form above, complete your waivers, and show up!

Absolutely not. There are no strikes, kicks, or punches in jiu-jitsu, and our goal is never to hurt one another in the training room. If you are caught in a submission just tap and your opponent will stop. As a beginner you are never required to spar. You will only be paired up with partners of similar skill and size. Our goal is to progress as a group. We all work to help each other get better at jiu-jitsu.

No. Regular jiu-jitsu training will naturally get you in shape. You do not need to be in great athletic fitness before you start training. Although being in good physical condition never hurts, you will see how quickly BJJ training will help you lose weight, tone up, and improve your cardiovascular fitness.
